英エコノミスト誌のインテリジェンス・ユニットの調査によると、ダッカは全世界140の都市の中で一番住みにくい都市だそうだ。昨年は139位で辛うじて世界で2番目に住みにくい都市とされていたのに、今回は一つ順位を落としてしまった。ちなみに世界で一番住みやすい都市とされたのはオーストラリアのメルボルン。
According to the Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2012 Global Livability Survey, Dhaka was the least liveable city among the 140 cities in the world. The last year, Dhaka was positioned in 139, so that means living condition of Dhaka is getting worth. Australia’s Melbourne was ranked as the most liveable city.
この調査は治安（政治的安定？）、医療、文化および環境、教育、インフラの5項目、30に及ぶ質問項目の総合得点から順位が付けられるそうだ。
This survey is based on 30 different questions which are categorized in 5 such as Stability, Health Care, Culture and Environment, Education and Infrastructure.
確かに先進国的な視点での「快適」や「安全」からは程遠いもしれないが、バングラデシュやダッカの生活は、想像するほど悪くない。人情、思いやり、笑顔（愛嬌）、のような調査項目が含まれれば、むしろ先進国を差し置いて上位に躍り出る可能性が高いのになあ、と個人的に思っている。
I have no objection on this survey, which is conducted from the Developed country’s point of view. But if you include “Humaneness”, “Sympathy”, “Smile-ness” or ”Friendliness” in the survey, I am pretty sure that Bangladesh or other so-called developing countries can compete in high positions.
