バングラデシュは今収穫の時期を迎えている。雨季に米作、乾季に野菜やマメ類を作る伝統的なパターンから、イリ（IRRI）米、いわゆる高収量品種米の栽培が広まり、雨季を控えたこの時期が刈り取りの最盛期になっているのである。
It is in the middle of harvest season in Bangladesh. Rice used to be cultivated only during rainy season and beans and vegetables was for the dry season. After introduction of IRRI rice (high-yield variety), this traditional pattern had changed and rice can be grown even in dry season with irrigation.
4月後半から5月にかけて雨季前の不安定な天気が続き、突風や驟雨に襲われることもしばしばなのだが、そんな時期にイリ米は実りの時期を迎えるので、いつ雨が降るか、風で稲が倒されやしないかと農民は気が気でない。
Before monsoon, April and May often face unstable weather, heavy rain with thunder and gusty winds. Farmers are always anxious about weather.
雨が降る前に収穫を済ませ、しっかりと乾燥させておきたいのだろう。
先週クルナへ出張途中の道路は、しばしば刈り取った稲や脱穀した米に占領されていた。
So they are working so hard cutting and drying rice not to waste their time. Highway on the way to Khulna was occupied by such farmers.
バングラデシュでは、限られた資源を有効活用している様子を良く見かける。公道も地域の人にとっては活用しがいのある共有財産、こういうおおらかさがとても好きだ。
This is a good example of the effective and maximum use of local resources.
